Solid Wild Max!


Here’s a super hero portrait commissioned by Max Maheu of SolidWild 3D prototyping. Max and Solid Wild specialize in 3D printing, rapid prototyping and CAD design for commercial, and private applications ranging from industrial design, to costuming pieces.

  1. Nice proportions but we have to get you to switch up your line weight more. That heavy line drags down some of the subtlety that I’ve seen you express in your pencils. On your next image try using the heavy line on the contours that represent the shadow side. As shapes get more delicate you should also adjust your overall treatment of detail (fingers and facial features should be more lightly handled than shoulders or thighs.)

    Terry Dodson is a great teacher in this regard. Get his early Star Wars art or any of his new X-men art and you can see it for yourself.

    • I definitely agree! I feel that perhaps sometimes, I am still homing in too tightly on getting the SHAPE right that I lose the looseness. Something to work on for certain. Thanks for the Terry Dodson links! I hadn’t thought about using the shadow side as the heavier line weight, but it makes perfect sense!
